Audi controlled the 60th Anniversary Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring from start-to-finish, as could be expected given the pace of its three R18 TDIs compared to the rest of the field. The longtime trio of Allan McNish, Tom Kristensen and Rinaldo Capello took the overall and LMP1 (WEC) win in the No. 2 car, for Audi’s first win since 2009 when the same trio won in the R15’s debut. The win also marks Kristensen’s sixth at Sebring, which extends his record at this track.

McLaren driver Jenson Button won the Formula One season-opening Australian Grand Prix on Sunday, taking the checkered flag Down Under for the third time in four years.

Button beat reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull by 2.1 seconds after the race turned into a 17-lap shootout after Vitaly Petrov stopped on the main straight, bringing out the safety car.

The 60th Anniversary Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring is now halfway complete. A few news and notes as the race has evolved:

AUDI SWEEP IS OUT – On pure pace, Audi was able to place its three R18 TDIs in the top three positions. The race won’t end that way. The No. 1 Audi, with defending Le Mans 24 Hours champions Andre Lotterer, Benoit Treluyer and Marcel Fassler, went behind the wall just prior to halfway with apparent electrical issues. That opened the final podium position for a non-diesel car, first taken by Rebellion Racing in its 2011-spec Lola Toyota coupe and driver Nick Heidfeld.
