Larry Larson of Larson Race Cars now holds the title of builder and driver of the World’s Quickest Street Legal Car. His 1998 Chevy S-10 ran 6.16-seconds at 219 mph at Tulsa Raceway Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States on September 13, 2014 during the HOT ROD Drag Week 2014 Heads-Up Challenge.
SN Editor – I’ve spent many years in action sports and Jack McClure is still the craziest guy I’ve ever seen. We raced Top Fuel Dragsters in the late 1960’s and 1970’s. Fast cars were running the full quarter mile in the mid 6 seconds at 220+ mph. Jack would sit on his little go-kart, make 5 second passes at 240 mph and completely show up the big boys. His idea of “safety” was to strap a parachute to the back of his neck. He planned to release the chute if any problems happened, be pulled out of the car backwards and slide to a stop on his ass. Always wondered what happened to him and fully expected to hear he was killed in this go-kart. He’s now back at it at 88 years old … CRAZY !!!!!!!!!
