U.S.-based Formula One team reportedly in the works

American engineer Ken Anderson and former Williams Formula One team manager and well-known TV commentator Peter Windsor are attempting to form an American Formula One team, according to a report on Autosport.com.

The team is set to be called “USF1,” and a Web site already exists–http://www.usf1.com as of now it only displays a logo while disclosing no details of the operation…  More info

In some ways, it was as if nothing had happened in the world in the past year when Max Mosley held his annual preseason Formula One talk with a few journalists in a private dining room in an upscale French restaurant in the Chelsea area of London.

Mosley, 68, is the president of the International Automobile Federation, or FIA, the governing body of world motor sport, which is made up of most of the world’s national car clubs…  More info

Irwindale racing cards provide variety – It is considered one of the top short tracks in the nation.

Toyota Speedway at Irwindale and other Southern California short tracks that host racing mostly on Saturday nights are gearing up for the 2009 racing season.
The Irwindale facility, considered one of the best short tracks in the nation, is a half-mile paved oval that features late-model stock cars.
Trucks and smaller cars called bandoleros and legends also compete at Toyota Speedway, which also hosts demolition derbies and figure-eight races.

The track’s notable events during the year include its NASCAR season opener March 21, the NASCAR Camping World Series 200 on July 4, the NASCAR Late Model final on Oct. 24 and the venerable Turkey Night race with sprint and midget cars Thanksgiving night.

On Oct. 17, the speedway also is scheduled to host a professional “drifting” event as part of the Formula Drift series’ schedule…  More info

For Alan Johnson, leaving Don Schumacher Racing to return to ownership with a start-up team was simply a matter of moving from one form of royalty to another — literally.
