Money is an emotional issue, especially during economic hard times. Social scientists have always warned that once a person’s basic needs are met money doesn’t buy happiness. But if you’re wondering, or maybe even arguing over, what to do with any precious discretionary income these days, a new study suggests how to get the biggest emotional bang for your buck.

Ryan Howell, an assistant professor of psychology at San Francisco State University, found that buying experiences — such as vacations, going to the theater or renting a sailboat — gave people more happiness than buying material things. Last September, I attended my very first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH.

This was no doubt the most exciting and all-time best weekend of my life, and hopefully I’ll get to go again next year.

Other than just sitting down in your assigned seat in the grandstands and watching the Sprint Cup race, there are so many other things to do during the weekend.

A week after the 2007 National Rally Champion Ronald Ssebuguzi disclosed that it will take a miracle to feature in the season opener set for Mukono on February 15, he remains optimistic that he still has chance to make the cockpit in time for flag-off in time.

“The repairs on the car (Mitsubishi Evo.IV) are behind schedule but the mechanics will step up and put in extra hours to ensure that we are ready,” Ssebuguzi told Sunday Monitor as he gears up for next weekend’s CBS Premier Sprint….  More info
