atvRockstar Makita Suzuki’s Chris Borich became the first repeat winner of the season as he beat out some stiff competition at round four of the 2009 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series at the Pirelli Big Buck GNCC today in Union, South Carolina. Borich’s win puts him at the top of the points standings, and will make the road to the championship harder for the rest of the riders.

FRE KTM’s Adam McGill took a close second, as Borich made a pass on him just a few turns from the finish after two hours of racing… Details

A torrential downpour delivered the shortest Formula One race for 18 years and back-to-back victories for Brawn GP’s Jenson Button at the Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday.

The race suspended when the red flag came out after 32 laps as a tropical storm lashed the Sepang track, making conditions impossible for drivers. A restart was considered for 50 minutes, but with the rain continuing and darkness descending after the twilight start, the race director elected not to attempt a restart.

Because less than three quarters of the scheduled 56 laps were completed, only half points were awarded to drivers and teams. It was the first time that had happened in F1 since the Australian GP at Adelaide in 1991.

“It wasn’t like a river, it was a lake,” Button said of the track conditions when the race was stopped.

Sebastien Loeb won the Portugal Rally on Sunday to extend his championship lead and maintain his perfect start to the season.

Loeb won two of Sunday’s five stages to beat Ford’s Mikko Hirvonen by 24.3 seconds. The Citroen driver earned his 51st career win after taking the 18-stage race with an overall winning time of 3 hours, 53 minutes, 13.1 seconds…  Details

Hoper was about to scrap plans to attend NASCAR racing in Texas because of record flooding at home in Fargo, N.D.

Then Texas Motor Speedway president Eddie Gossage found out about Hoper, who had made North Dakota the 50th state to buy a ticket to his track. Never one to miss a good public relations opportunity, Gossage called Hoper.

Five days later, the Jimmie Johnson fan was in front of the media Saturday, suite upgrade and autographed Johnson photo in hand. Of course, there was the Lowe’s gift card as well. Lowe’s is Johnson’s primary sponsor, and Hoper’s home has a flooded basement in need of repairs.

Gossage simply suggested that perhaps Hoper, who has a friend in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, could use a few days away after the stress of preparing for the flood and bracing for the damage…  Details
