Dan Wheldon believes the streets of Long Beach are made for racing.
What the former IndyCar points champ is still debating—like most other drivers in the series— is how to attack the 1.97-mile, 11-turn course with this year’s tire combination.
After seeing drivers mix up their strategies at last weekend’s season-opener in St. Petersburg, Fla., Wheldon and others are spending this week’s break evaluating results and devising new game plans.
“I liked the way that we played it (at St. Pete),†Wheldon said. “Certainly with the experience we’ve got now, we’ll probably try and adjust that a little bit at Long Beach.â€

A designated ATV trail is the solution to motorized vehicle problems facing the Town of Pelham, says a local all-terrain vehicle riders’ club.
Quad Niagara ATV Club president Gerry Stull, in a presentation to town council Monday, asked politicians to help create a network of trails for ATV use in Niagara.
Formed in July of 2008, the Quad Niagara ATV Club has about 40 local ATV enthusiasts aged 20 to 50, said Stull.
Quad Niagara is associated with the Ontario Federation of ATV Clubs, a provincial group bent on getting a network of ATV trails in the province.

Defining what makes a good all-terrain vehicle riding area depends on the type of experience it offers.
Some riders look for thrills and technical hills or dunes to challenge them. Others like to take scenic trails that lead to campgrounds or overlooks. A few seek places close to home to enjoy their sport.
“The ingredients are similar to any other trail-based activities,” said Brian Hawthorne of the Blue Ribbon Coalition, an Idaho-based advocacy organization. “We look for loops and level of difficulty in a scenic backcountry setting. Mountain bikers are looking for the same thing. We like a place with variety, which offers super technical trails as well as the ones where you take your wife and kid.”
