The handwriting had been on the wall for a while: insiders knew that Cycle News, the quasi-official organ of America’s racers, industry insiders and die-hard enthusiasts, was struggling with the double-whammy of competition from new media and an imploded industry. So that’s why hearing Cycle News has shut down as of August 31, 2010 was saddening, but not surprising.
The Cycle News story began in 1965 when Chuck and Sharon Clayton purchased an existing L.A.-area motorcycle publication and renamed it. It quickly got a reputation for providing the best and most timely coverage of Southern California—and later national—motorcycle racing. That’s right, scooters — those little two-wheel machines you frequently see zipping around streets and roads, especially when gas prices skyrocket.

James Bond fan has invented a moped equipped with a flame thrower to help settle road rage disputes
Colin Furze, 30, spent a month converting the sports scooter, which can travel up to 60mph to produce a 15 foot jet of fire.
It took three attempts to make the flame-throwing moped, which works by pressing a button on the handlebar.
“It’s a lot of fun and when I fire the flames out the back it makes me feel just like James Bond,” said Mr Furze.
