When it comes to figuring out which cities in America suffer the highest rate of drunken driving, it may come as little surprise that cities with poor public transportation and strong DUI enforcement top the list.

A study compiled by Insurance.com tracked the reporting of DUIs by insurance clients, finding “America’s Finest City” to also be America’s drunkest driving city. San Diego not only has the most DUIs in terms of sheer volume, the city can also lay claim to the largest percentage of drivers with alcohol-related convictions.

Dallas-based racer and businessman Charles Nearburg made history at the Bonneville Salt Flats in the Red Line Oil-equipped “Spirit of Rett” streamliner, breaking a 45-year-old land-speed record and also setting the fastest single-engine car record in history with an average speed of 414.5mph. This eclipsed the Class 11 record (409.27mph) set by the Summers Brothers “Goldenrod” in 1965.

The first run of the new land speed record for a naturally-aspirated, wheel-driven car. Record was set September 21st, 2010 at the Bonneville Salt Flats with Charles Nearburg driving. Orange signs whizzing by on the left side indicate miles – recorded speed is an average between mile 5 and mile 6. On this run the average was 416.90 mph.

buckeyebullet25The Bullet Buckeye team from Ohio State University has set a world record average two-way speed of 307.7mph (495km/h) with its battery electric Venturi Buckeye Bullet 2.5. The lithium ion battery powered car eclipsed the previous 245mph (394km/h) world land speed record for battery electric vehicles set in 1999 by White Lightning. The new record was set by the Bullet at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah this week, is pending certification by the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the worldwide motor sports governing body.
