Sunny skies and warm temperatures helped this year’s Sea Otter Classic see double-digit attendance increases the first three days of the show.

Sunday was down 5-8 percent, according to Sea Otter president and chief executive officer Frank Yohannan.

“The decrease [was probably] due to the hot weather and fewer amateur categories,” Yohannan said. “Also there was no BMX racing this year.” Temps rose well into the 80s at Laguna Seca on Sunday.

Yohannan said the feedback he’s gotten thus far from exhibitors has been positive, with several selling out product…  Details

There were plenty of new road and mountain bike components on show at the Sea Otter Classic, and BikeRadar’s technical editor James Huang checked out the latest kit from Ritchey, Cane Creek, Syncros, Easton, Race Face, Rotor, Edge Composites and The Hive.

img_0802-internet1Stoked News made the trip to Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California for the Sea Otter Classic this past weekend.  I went to cheer on friends racing in the mt. bike gravity events, relax and socialize.

The weather at Sea Otter over the years has ranged from very nice California springtime weather, to cold, windy driving rain and everything in between.  The last few days in Monterey have been absolutely spectacular.  You could not have asked for anything better.  It was shorts, t-shirts and flip flops.

Sea Otter is the largest cycling event in North America and perhaps the world.  There were in excess of 10,000 entrants in the various races.  This is a fun event because there are no year-end championship points awarded and everyone can relax and have a good time.  The racing is serious, but no worry about points if you crash out.

Riders come from around the world, with a large number of Pro’s flying in from the South African World Cup last weekend.  The competition was very tuff in the Men’s Pro ranks.  There were over 100 pro men trying to qualify for the 32 open spots in the Dual Slalom.

Rather than give you the actual results I suggest you visit the Sea Otter web site.

I want to give a special thanks to the crew from Mike’s Bikes.  The hospitality of Brian, Eric and Drew of the San Rafael store helped made the weekend something special.  That and the keg Brian brought from Moylan’s Brewery in Novato.  I highly recommend you visit a Mike’s Bikes store in Northern Calif. for your cycling needs….. Thanks guys.Â
