In his green Mao cap and wraparound shades, Sheng Jian reflected both China’s political past and its hip sporting future as he watched this month’s X Games Asia with one foot in a bandage and an eye on the Olympics.
“These guys are so good I don’t know if I would have made the final even with both feet,” said the injured BMX freestyle rider.
The 22-year-old, one of China’s top BMX “park” specialists, broke his right ankle practicing tricks such as bar-spins over the box before Asia’s premier action sports fest got under way.
