On Thursday evening, September 17th, 2009, Jeremy McGrath was inducted into the BMX Hall of Fame at the San Diego Hall of Champions located in San Diego ’s Balboa Park. With close to 300 guests gathering for the Induction Dinner and Award Ceremony, McGrath had this to say about his newly bestowed honor, “I am just so happy to be part of this wonderful event and honored that the ABA has presented ME with this Lifetime Achievement Award, I’m really kinda surprised by it all, but pleasantly surprised of course!â€
McGrath, along with six other honorees, represent BMX racing and Freestyle BMX from the 1970’s and 1980’s and one industry contributor. The inductees are Danny Oakley (1960’s and 1970’s pioneer); Jeremy McGrath (past BMXer lifetime achievement award); D.D. Leone (1980’s Professional Racer); Troy Lee (BMX Industry contributor, Troy Lee Designs); R.L. Osborn and Mike Buff (legendary BMX Action Trick Team); and Eddie Fiola (freestyle Pioneer)… Details
Video Cycling BMX – Nyquist Wins BMX Dirt Finals at Dew Tour’s Toyota Challenge – TJ Ellis of Moreno Valley, Calif. was in the lead at the BMX dirt final after completing his second run, and only extended his lead with his third and final run. It came down to the last rider of the night, Nyquist, who jumped from eighth place to first with a run that included a one-handed x-up 360, an opposite 360 tuck no-hander and a 720 one-footed x-up. Nyquist finished with a score of 92.56 and Ellis came in a close second with a score of 92.31.
The moment of truth is almost at hand for a man who is no stranger to the toughest of challenges. In just a few days he’ll be climbing Africa’s Mt. Kilimanjaro as no one has ever climbed it before, as CBS News correspondent Karen Brown reports.
Don’t tell Chris Waddell he can’t climb a mountain. This week Waddell will try to become the first paraplegic, on his own power, to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro.
“I want them to go, ‘Wow, I never thought that was possible,'” Waddell said.
Paralyzed at 20 in a freak ski accident, Waddell went on to become the most decorated Paralympic skier ever. But still, he’s tired of just being “a guy in a wheel chair.”  … Details
