Pietermartizburg, South Africa (July 29, 2010) — The United States celebrated five medals as the UCI BMX World Championships opened at the Royal Showgrounds in South Africa with the 13 and under boys and girls divisions. Julian Dittrick (Phoenix, Ariz.), Michael Gonzales (Watsonville, Calif.) and Collin Hudson (Longmont, Colo.) each earned world titles with wins in their respective divisions.

Amakye Andersen (Tucson, Ariz.) secured the first American medal with a silver in the seven-year-old boys division. He was quickly followed by a dominating American performance in the eight-year-old boys division as Dittrick earned his rainbow stripes with Wyatt Bell (Berthoud, Colo.) grabbing the bronze and Matthew Sterling (Saratoga, Calif.) in fourth.

The U.S. suffered from rare near misses with only one rider in the top eight in the nine-year-old boys division and Max Burhenn (Fortville, Ind.) just missing the podium in fourth for the 10-year-old age group  …  Details

USA Cycling will offer open sessions on the Supercross BMX track at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. prior to round three of the UCI SX BMX World Cup. All active USA Cycling members born 1994 or earlier who are pre-registered to compete in the Chula Vista SX World Cup are eligible to petition for participation in the sessions.

e following dates: Aug. 7-8, Aug. 14-15 and Aug. 28. Each day will consist of two sessions each day; a morning session from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and an evening session from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

All interested riders must make a formal request via email to coach Jeff Glynn at: usacbmx@att.net. These open training sessions will be by invitation only and the coaching staff will contact those riders who have been selected 24 hours after the deadline expires.

Registration deadlines for training sessions are as follows:

  • Session #1 — Aug 4, 5:00 p.m. PST
  • Session #2 — Aug 6, 5:00 p.m. PST
  • Session #3 — Aug 20, 5:00 p.m. PST
