Buoyed by the success of the World Cup and a bid to host the 2020 Olympics, South Africa announced plans Thursday to hold a cycling event to rival the Tour de France.
The nation’s cycling governing body said it has scheduled the first Tour of South Africa for February in hopes it will become a major tournament on the international cycling calendar.
