I didn’t start dedicating myself to BMX full time until I was 18. I’ve made exponential improvements since moving out to San Diego. One, I think getting to ride all year was a huge jump in results. Number two, just focusing on one thing eliminates a lot of distractions and you are able to put all of your energy into one thing.
When I got injured last year I felt like I had been doing really well and like I was kind of blowing it at the last minute. Olympic points were starting and I was just wondering how I’m going to make up this points difference. The Olympics were a year out and they are telling me I have an eight month recovery time. No wonder Jimmy Watkins is a fast sprinter. He’s used to running up slopes with a hose to extinguish fires.
The powerfully built Watkins, a 29-year-old firefighter from Bakersfield, Calif., can already be proud of his achievements at the Olympic Velodrome. On Sunday, he will compete in the quarterfinals of the sprint tournament, track cycling’s blue-ribbon event.

Hundreds of BMX bicycles went charging around the Trilogy Park track Saturday as riders hoping to make a name for themselves competed in the Quaker State National BMX race.
Male and female riders from along the East Coast, and of all ages, shapes and sizes were out despite the sweltering temperatures on the track. As their name, age and class blared out of the loudspeakers that were perched above the track, many riders pushed faster to cheers from the crowd.

The US Mountain Bike Hall of Fame (MBHOF) announced five inductees for 2012 on its website. They include Dave House, Ruthie Matthes, Gary Sjoquist, Monte Ward and Bob Woodward. The 2012 induction ceremony will be held on Wednesday, September 19 at Interbike in Las Vegas, Nevada at 6:00 pm.
