If mountain bikers use saws and other tools, it’s often to create wood features in the forest. Julia Hofmann used them for a different reason, though: to finish her bachelor thesis. No, she didn’t assemble a series of wooden jumps and drops for school, but rather transformed a Series 2A Land Rover into her travelling bike caravan. Simply put, the German racer built her own dream vehicle, a two-wheeler’s four-wheeler that she’ll use to get to riding spots the world over. The recent PB poll here (and the associated comments) on the site got me thinking: why do I love racing? Why is hurtling my bike down a treacherous trail while the clock is ticking away so much fun?
The gears are still grinding away trying to complete the answer, but these are some of the conclusions that have surfaced from my internal inquiry.

There are reports coming in from Norway that Alpinco, the relatively new owners of the Hafjell and Kvitfjell resorts, is considering not opening Hafjell Bike Park this summer. We imagine this news comes as a huge surprise to everyone given the resort has held two very successful UCI DH World Cup races recently and is scheduled to host the UCI DH World Championships later this year.
