Take four skydivers, two hot air balloons, a 125m long rope with a seat on the end, climb to 1,800m in a hot air balloon…and this is what you get – MEGA SWING, the physical realization of that childhood dream we all have. “It’s the dream of everyone,” Lettner says. “To swing higher and higher, and finally jump off and fly.”
“We just wanted to go bigger,” says Austrian, Marco Waltenspiel, who with fellow skydivers Georg Lettner, Marco Fürst and Dominic Roithmair made this project happen.
Are your palms sweating? Mine are! A BASE jumper makes an incredible leap from a highrise somewhere awesome in the world. The view from the balcony is stunning… almost surreal! The heavenly clouds blanket the earth in all directions obscuring the ground, while a few buildings poke through the fluffy clouds, giving a sense of scale and showing just how high up the jumper is.
What happens next, well, words can’t describe. I hope you’re not afraid of heights!
The 2nd FAI World Paragliding Aerobatic Championships came to a successful close at Lake Annecy in south west France. An impressive seven solo and seven synchro runs were flown over 7 days from 26 August to 3 September, giving the 34 pilots from 16 nations an excellent opportunity to demonstrate their aerobatics skills in a highly competitive environment.
