The 2014 DB Skimboards Pro/AM took place on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Dash Point, in Federal Way, Washington. To the surprise of no one Isaac Thomas took the pro division win again with his brother Josiah Thomas taking first in the amateur division. Bree Staab won the women’s division and Reed Shumpert won the amateur division.
We went down to the frigid waters of South Australia last weekend for the Sun Zapper Knights Beach Pro presented by the Alexandrina Council. With what was looking like an armageddon like storm front hitting on Sunday morning the call was made to run the entire event on the Saturday.
Kicking things off early in clean 3 foot left wedges the pro men’s took to the water. Early standouts included local legends Jasper Ashmoore, Marshall Watson alongside the usual Kyle Ward, Lachlan Cramsie and Liam Lucas. In the end Lachlan Cramsie battled the rainstorm in the final and took the win over an impressive Liam Lucas.
With that win, Lachlan Cramsie secured enough overall points to charge ahead of his 2017 rival Kyle Ward and take the 2017 ABA Title for his second time round.
This is the unbelievable moment a daring body boarder was catapulted more than 20ft in the air by a freak wave – leaving him with a burst lung.
Surfer Craig Stroh captured the moment professional body boarder pal Jack Baker’s was wiped out by the swell as he watched from the shore in Cronulla, Sydney, Australia, on Monday (May 22). Jack, who was riding a small 4ft wave, lost a litre of blood and was rushed to hospital when he was launched 20ft high and 40ft forwards by the impact of a second ‘backwash’ wave hitting him.
Craig, 42, said he feared the 22-year-old was dead when he witnessed the dramatic moment he was flung back down to the water – hitting the sea at what could have been up to 16mph.
