After an agonising wait the first Round of ‘The 2009 Nomad Shark Island Challenge’ finally got underway in what some are claiming to be suicidal conditions. The anticipated Easterly swell delivered waves in the 2m range with its direction causing some major headaches for some of the riders.

 
The first two heats saw some incredible action and commitment with competitors copping the full fury of an angry Shark Island. With the swell hitting the reef straight on wave knowledge was the leading edge to success.

The 2009 Nazaré World Master is out of the IBA World Tour due to financial reasons 

The 4Lines Sport´s Concepts SA, the City hall of Nazaré and Nazaré Qualifica, E.M., want to communicate to the entire world bodyboard community, the cancellation of the Nazaré World Master, that would take place in Praia do Norte – Nazaré, during November 2009.

This postponement is due to  financial reasons mainly,  that affect directly, the realization of this event , that would promote our sport in an international level, regarding TV, video, general press and online media…  Details 

wedgeThe first day of The Wedge Classic 09 kicked off with round 1’s of all divisions in very trying, but contestable 2 -3 ft conditions at The Wedge, in Plettenberg Bay.

During the day the winds swung from offshore to onshore with swell increasing slightly for riders to give a better show of their contest riding abilities. Using a 3 man panel out of 4 judges, it wasn’t hard to pinpoint the standouts of the day.

In the Junior division, Aden Kleve, was the clear standout with smooth clean textbook riding, which saw him advance to the semi final

In the Men’s division, Douw Steyn, advanced through to semi finals, with good barrel riding to roll combos, where he will meet winner of the Men’s division at The Wedge Classic 2007 and 2008, local lad, Ryan Jucker.
