The final event on this year’s Body Glove USBA National Tour is just around the corner and the excitement for the 2010 SCION Jenk’s Pro has been building to a fever pitch. Forecasters are calling for one of the most active Atlantic hurricane seasons in recent history.

The SCION Jenks Pro has been blessed with surf for seven years now, including the truly epic 6 – 10’ Ernesto swell of 2005 which provided what many say were the best contest surf for a mainland contest, ever. The weather that was predicted had arrived with a vengeance on the morning of the finals. All contestants met at Bones at 7am to make a call whether to run the contest or to hold off and surf the huge swell that was predicted for Monday.

The decision was made to surf the remaining 7 final heats at Bones. The waves were still very contestable but with a side shore wind that was getting stronger by the minute it was decided that the Junior and Pro final should be run first followed by the remaining other divisions. Contestants woke to expectations of a clean swell with offshore winds and what we found on arrival at “Bones” was probably better than what most people would have imagined.

Super smooth 3-4ft lines peeled down the spongy reef at Bones. The waves were some of the best seen for a SABA event and seeing that it was the first event of its kind on the west coast, organsers couldn’t have asked for better.

With a looming 5m swell predicted on Monday and Sundays conditions looking abit onshore, organisers used today’s conditions to run as much as the contest as possible  …  Details

The last day of competition was the most exciting day of all. The morning started with the DK semis with Dave Hubbard and Kim Feast, taking DUB the best out of it moving to the final.

In semi 2 Micah McMullin faced current world champ Cesar Bauer. McMullin had a strong start, unfortunately his board delaminated and had to go in and get a different board. Meanwhile Bauer took advantage and score a couple of good rides taking the heat and moving to the DK final vs. Dave Hubbard.
