Visitors to Mt. Hutt this winter will be rewarded with some spectacular skiing action as the New Zealand ski area plays host to several World Cup teams in training for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

From July 20th through September 20th Mt. Hutt’s International Race Training Arena will be set alight by athletes reaching speeds of up to 120 km/h in the Downhill training course. Teams this year include Switzerland, Sweden, Germany, New Zealand, and Australia as well as Olympic hosts Canada.

Paul Marks, Mt. Hutt’s Head of Race and Events, said the Arena was in superb condition and encouraged people to come and witness the world’s best alpine ski racers in action …  Details

Yes, people are skiing in Australia right now. Six hours south of Sydney and 2 hours south of Canberra is the resort of Perisher Blue. Imagine eastern resorts like Killington and Sunday River, but instead of New York/New Jersey accents, you hear “Krikee” and “Good on ya mate!”

Skiing in Australia is an interesting experience. For starters, you are skiing from about 6000 feet to 4000 feet or a vertical of approximately 2000 feet. Skiing through the trees in Australia is unique. Australia has snow gums trees, which look like they have red, rust, and yellow tribal tattoos all over their bark. They are cool looking, but can be difficult to ski through since they grow outward and upward…  Details

Video Snowboard Skiing – The Bagjump – For the first time in North America Snowboarders and Skiers have the Bagjump to help them fine tune their skills in the air.

Park City resident Kevin Rapf is keeping his record. “I’ve ridden at least once every month for the last 21 months, all in Utah,” Rapf says. “I’m trying to go a solid two years of snowboarding in the state.”

Aside from being, well, just plain cool, Rapf’s diligence is pretty newsworthy. In spite of searing temp’s (the mercury nearly hit 100 F today in Salt Lake City), the Utah mountains still have snow. Even better? They still have skiable terrain!
