Northstar’s brand-new, 22-Foot Shaun White Superpipe will open for the season this weekend, with all-time first laps kicking off Saturday morning. EpicMix Photographers will be on-site to capture the event, and of course, the Superpipe will be open to all skiers and riders brave enough to to drop into its massive, masterpiece walls.

A lack of snow is keeping skiers and snowboarders away from Mammoth Mountain, Lake Tahoe and other winter sports hot spots. But the season is still young, and resort operators are optimistic that snow will come.

 When I heard Lone Mountain Ranch (LMR) had hired Denise Wade as their new Nordic ski director, I figured it was a perfect opportunity for me to get to know her and take a lesson. For three years now I’ve curiously been watching cross-country skiers skiing their butts off around town, but to be perfectly honest, I’m more comfortable flying down the mountain on a snowboard than slowly gliding down a small hill on skinny skis.
