After closing down over the weekend due to snowfall, the Beartooth Scenic Byway (aka Highway 212 or the Beartooth Pass) has opened back up. The drive into the high mountains is a thrill in itself, but for skiers and snowboarders — or even the occasional sledder — the early summer offers a chance to glide down mountain chutes when the weather is much more balmy.
With warming temperatures and receding snowlines, many skiers are stowing their gear for the season. Sure, there’s tacky singletrack to ride and surf to catch, but as states ease their coronavirus restrictions, there are still a few chairs left to ride.

Snowboarding and Skiing across water is always a good springtime adventure. There is a short window where the lake has melted, but there is still enough snow to snowboard down towards it. I had been checking on it for a few days, and when the weather was good, it was time to grab the skis and snowboards and give it a go!
