The L.A. Boat Show opened on a high note considering the challenging economic times. On the whole, exhibitors reported more interest that far exceeded expectations.

“We’re happy and making sales at the show,” commented Scott Driesbach, Advantage Boats COO with factory headquarters in Lake Havasu City, AZ. “It’s been a long six months, but after this Saturday and Sunday, we’re feeling much better about what 2009 holds in store. We closed several deals the first day and the introduction of our new 34 XFlight model created a lot of consumer buzz and plenty of quality leads that we’ll be following up in the weeks and months ahead.”

no-ageIt may seem like No Age’s Dean Spunt and Randy Randall spend all of their time in sweaty basements and lofts banging out their dream-punk jams, but the pair also share an extra-musical passion: skateboarding. And these dudes aren’t kidding around– they have a half-pipe in their backyard. And they’ve even been skating with Ryan Adams in Australia this week.

Recently, Spunt and Randall formed a partnership with the California skate clothing company Altamont Apparel. Like No Age, Altamont is a punk-informed DIY enterprise. Altamont found that the No Age dudes shared their aesthetics and values, so they have brought Spunt and Randall on as “team managers” for the music side of the company…  More info

The 40,000-square-foot park is part of a 15-acre expansion of the Santa Clarita Activities Center, and will dwarf the former park which closed last year.

Derek Seaman is one of the masterminds behind O’Brien’s new wakeskate, the Intox. And Derek has actually been experimenting with wakeskate design for quite some time. I had the pleasure of hearing a few stories back in 2003, and at that time he was already testing some custom designed boards that were unlike anything in wakeskating. But now Derek has the opportunity to make his designs a full-on reality for wakeskaters everywhere. Derek is here to explain some of the design features of his first major wakeskate release with O’Brien.

Why did O’Brien want to step up their involvement in wakeskating to go beyond the traffic series?

Well, I think it was time. O’Brien has always had a strong desire to step it up in the wakeskate scene, but they wanted to make sure they did it right with the right product.
