Consider the double standard in this: If a city resident pedals into town on a bike, he or she is a carbon-footprint hero brimming with health and rewarded with bike paths, convenient racks, even an annual “bike to work” day.
But if a young adult ventures downtown on inline skates, or worse, a skateboard, this (albeit often slightly younger) self-propelled commuter is hauled over by the cops, his transportation may be seized and he or she faces a $50 fine.
It is just plain silly to ban skateboarding and inline skating across the entire city…. Details
