Founder Oliver Percovich, 34, explains how the project encourages Afghan kids to build relationships that transcend nationality and class.

At first, it felt strange to be skateboarding in places in Kabul where the Taliban were executing people not that long ago. But it’s fantastic to skate in these notorious places and to be able to have fun in them – something that should be celebrated.

Water skiing and wakeboarding are quite common hobbies. While most approach it as summertime recreation, certain students at Saint Mary’s have taken the sports up competitively. The Saint Mary’s Water ski and Wakeboard team began in February of 2008 with four members. Since then it has grown to include 13 students, seven men and six women.

Brian Detrick ’11 started the club team because of his long-standing passion for skiing. He wanted to ski at the collegiate level as well as offer the oppertunity to others to do the same “I wanted to share my passion for the sport with everyone else,” Detrick said.
