The 2009 Summer Course Racing season got underway on Sat 21st March in the Midlands and London Regions, both of whose events were blessed with glorious spring weather, even tempting the occasional shortie out of the wardrobe. The Midlands sailors, at Hollowell SC, were luckier with the wind than the Londoners, starting off with 6 knots or so then building up to 12-14 later in the day, whereas the southerners, at Bough Beech SC near Sevenoaks had to be content with occasional puffs of 8 knots maximum.

Red Brick Gallery in Downtown Ventura CA is hosting our 2009 spring fundraiser artshow. Donations are coming in, we’ve got some amazing artists lined up, and will be featuring the sounds of Mr. Dope America alongside the visual stimulation of “One Track Mind” the new surf film from Woodshed films. Raffles, giveaways, and fine ale will be flowing for those in the area. Come partake!

The Women’s Pipeline Pro has welcomed hundreds of women competitors throughout the years and is considered one of the ultimate women’s pro surf events.

Winds calmed and the waves were perfect. The rush was on! The wahines showed up stoked and ready to charge 4-6 feet solid Hawaiian waves.

It’s official, Shark Island is no longer part of the 2009 IBA World Tour.

Mark Fordham stated that due to the economic climate he would not be able to stage an IBA rated event.

Negotiations with promoter Fordham failed to reach both IBA World Tour and IBA Specialty event sanctioning so sadly the event will be black-listed and off limits to contracted riders.

This includes all the riders that competed in the Turbo Pipe Pro and those who compete in the upcoming Brazilian events.
