Kite surfing is sweeping across the Bulgarian coast line as the latest fad in extreme water sports. It is still a sport in its infancy, but its growing popularity has lead to the formation of numerous clubs and as this adrenalin busting form of wind surfing takes off it is set to become a competition sport here as well as being included in the sports programmes of many tour operators.

The Rudiments of the Sport

The Auckland Freestyle Champs will be run in May and the idea is to run it on stand by without fixed location again to score the best possible conditions. The stand by period will be the whole month of May and every Saturday/Sunday within this month could be a possible comp day. Same as last year we’ll give updates during the week and make a final call on Friday.

The event
The Auckland Freestyle Champs is a comp designed to promote freestyle in the Auckland area and nationwide in a fun environment. The event is run on a standby mode to get the best possible conditions. Day 2 of the Mondial Du Vent 2009 in the city of Leucate, France started with a much colder temperature than yesterday. The temperature fell to 9° Celsius with wind chill near freezing point, which provided an extreme setting for the athletes that include some of the best kiteboarders in the world. There was a light rain during the competition but that didn’t dampen the excitement of the athletes and the crowd. In fact, there were more people on the beach today compared to yesterday as the crowd was eager to see their respective favorites back in action.
