COSTA MESA, Calif. — Kobe Bryant and Snoop Dogg gave the Maloof Money Cup skateboarding championships some celebrity buzz. 

Bob Burnquist gave it some good skating.

Burnquist, best known as the guy who rode a skateboard into the Grand Canyon three years ago, had the best score in the semifinals of the vert competition Saturday afternoon at the Orange County Fairgrounds. He and five others advanced to the finals on Sunday. They’ll join Pierre-Luc Gagnon, who as the defending champion was prequalified all the way to the finals.

LONG BEACH, Calif. — Sixty-five skiers raced the circuit from Long Beach to Catalina Island and back Saturday as hundreds of spectators watched near the start and finish line at the Queen Mary.

For many spectators, it was a family affair.

“There isn’t a better ambience for an event like this than what we have here in Long Beach,” said spectator David McMahon, who came to the race with his son.

The 61st annual Long Beach-Catalina-Long Beach Ski Race is part of Powerfest 2009, which is supported by Charter Communications Long Beach Sea Festival…  Details

ktaA new continental kiteboard tour has been sanction by the IKA to commence at towards the end of this year in Asia. The competition tour will be known as the Kiteboard Tour Asia (KTA) and has been approved at the continental tour level.

The KTA tour will be the first of its kind in the Asia region and aims to highlight the growing kiteboarding scene there, promote the opportunity for the more local riders to gain the experience of international competition and perhaps act as a springboard towards higher levels of the professional tours in the future.
