KIA Cold Hawaii PWA World Cup.

With strong south-westerly winds forecast for the entire day, many of the competitors were at the beach at dawn getting dialled into the conditions. However, the minute the competition was supposed to begin the wind began to backed off forcing head judge, Duncan Coombs to put the contest on hold. By 13:00 it had returned enough for the first heat to start, and with the waves often reaching 2.5m in the sets, Klitmoller was ready to rock the windsurfing world.

The 2010 Animal Windfest delivered the customary crowds of people and sunny skies but also saw a return to the scene of Steve Stubbs 3rd overall in the 2009 season and BKSA chief instructor Andy Gratwick but unlike many of the previous years the wind gods played the game.

15 racers all gathered on the beach on Saturday morning in front of the massive crowds getting ready to battle it out on the water, with the wind between 12 & 14 knots all the riders hit the water at 11 for the first race which was a triangle course set just off Sandbanks beach which made it really easy to follow the racing for the spectators  …  Details

The event was a joint effort between the three services, and travel company Ticket to Ride, aiming to raise at least £10,000 for the charity Help For Heroes using a Kitesurfing Challenge.

The Island of Alderney is just off the Cherbourg peninsular, and so was the perfect start point.

This is the first cross channel race of this kind, and was different in that many channel crossings are from the southeast coast of the uk to calais – only 17 miles or so. Alderney to Poole is approximately 70 miles.
