An incredible day of kitesurfing took place at the Pingtan Kiteboarding World Cup in China yesterday. Alex Pastor from Spain won the 2013 PKRA freestyle world title, Christophe Tack and Gisela Pulido won the Pingtan event, and Reno Romeu set a Guinness world record. The conditions were extreme with 20 knots of wind and a solid 3 to 4 meter hurricane swell. The competition started with the double elimination where Aaron Hadlow won 6 consecutive heats, defeating the new world champion, but eventually losing to Christophe Tack in the final. Gisela Pulido defended her second-place finish and then went on to defeat Karolina Winkowska twice to win the event and take a commanding lead in the overall PKRA points rankings for 2013 … Pictures and more

Staff and competitors arrived at the beach and were stoked to see bigger than expected surf already showing signs of texture. The stage was set and it was going to be a killer day!
The call was made by Head Judge Duncan Coombs early that we would continue with the Pro bracket, and take advantage of the better than expected conditions. As we moved into Round 3, the heats got tighter and tighter. Riders threw caution out the window, and pushed their limits to secure a spot in the coveted PWA.

Mattia Camboni’s day went from great to fantastic after bringing in three wins from three races to give him the lead in this year’s RSX Youth World Windsurfing Championships. Hadar Heller from Israel extended her lead in the women’s fleet over Italian Marta Maggetti. The Medal Races are scheduled for 9:30am on Saturday.
After a stormy Thursday, Friday welcomed the sailors with grate weather conditions and delivered three successful races.
