Today, Harley-Davidson, Inc. revealed its lineup of new motorcycles for 2012. The Motor Company will produce 32 models on six platforms (Sportster, Dyna, Softail,Touring, Trike and V-Rod). Four models, including the short-lived Street Glide Trike, have been discontinued. The Dyna Switchback (a model with detachable bags and windshield) and V-Rod 10th Anniversary Edition are new for 2012.

Harley-Davidson’s Custom Vehicle Operations, or more commonly, CVO, is the company’s in-house customizing arm. It’s like a company within a company, and Harley employees covet the opportunity to work for this branch of the Motor Company that takes standard Harley models and turns them into something special.

The question seems fairly rhetorical, right? We thought so too when we got a tip that someone had pitted a Yamaha YZF-R1 against a custom carbon fiber road bike, afterall there’s a 179hp power discrepancy, right?
