Motorcycle USA stayed in contact with Ducati throughout the 2011 La Carrera Panamericana event and followed their journey through the Mexican countryside. The Mexican Road Race is a seven-day vintage automobile race that heads north from Hualtulco to Zacatecas. The race is held in rally format with each day’s route broken into transfer sections and timed speed sections. The pair of Ducati Multistrada 1200 tagged along as a trial run to see if a two-wheeled class was appropriate for future events. Harley-Davidson has issued a massive recall with the National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) all because of a faulty rear brake light switch. Affecting 250,757 units in all, the recall is for certain 2009-2012 Harley Davidson Touring, CVO Touring, and Trike motorcycles (full list after the jump). Because of excessive heat caused by the exhaust system, the rear brake light switch on these motorcycles might not activate when the brakes are engaged, or conversely may activate when no braking is occurring.

Triumph has released yet more new models, expanding its range where other manufacturers are seemingly shrinking. An all-new open-class Adventure bike, the Tiger Explorer, will challenge BMW, while an R version of the bread-and-butter Speed Triple give Triumph faithful a helping of Öhlins suspension and Brembo brakes. Additionally, a limited-edition Steve McQueen replica provides something to the nostalgics out there.

Our long-term Triumph Tiger 800XC appeared to be shockingly thirsty, until I calculated how much fuel it was actually using. The computer was claiming only 43mpg in steady general riding, but fuel pumps and the odometer confirmed it’s desperately pessimistic – the real figure was in fact 49mpg.
