Joint Indian-English company Agni Motors’s claim of making quality, high efficiency and high performance electric motors gained massive credence today when it clearly bested the world’s fastest electric motocycles to win the first clean emissions (AKA electric) motorcycle Grand Prix at an average speed of 87.434 mph. It’s place in history is assured by the landmark win, but it was the team’s dominance that was most surprising.

It averaged 10 mph faster around the 37 mile course than its closest rival and established itself as the first superstar company to emerge in a fledgling giant industry. India was the most prominent nation with bikes on the podium in both classes. Just as Renault, Daimler, Ford and Honda made their name at the dawn of motorsport, we suspect we’ve seen some new and significant global brands for the first time…  Details

The Tourist Trophy races at the Isle of Man are over for another year, and the legendary races have another layer of history slathered on them. A new lap record was set in the Senior TT and the first alternative-fuel race at the Isle was won by a large margin by a joint UK/Indian company. Sadly, there was also tragedy.

In the premier class, British Supersport racer Steve Plater took first place when his teammate, 15-time-TT-winner John McGunness, suffered a broken drivechain on the fourth lap. However, McGuiness still set a record 131.578 mph laptime before the bike quit. The race saw Honda with two bikes on the podium – a nice way to celebrate the company’s 50th year at the Isle.

Although Dani Pedrosa didn’t have the best weekend in Mugello, he did win the title of the fastest man to ever ride a MotoGP bike. The Jockey sized Spainard was clocked in the speed trap at a phenomenal 217.03mph, shattering the previous record set by Makoto Tamada by 4mph.

Tamada, while also on a Honda, set his time on the 990cc variant of MotoGP bike, while at the Shanghai circuit in 2006. With the 800cc machines originally thought to be down on power when compared to their predacessors, we have seen them breaking lap records all over the series, and now they can claim the top speed honor as well…  Details
