… High desert winds forced the 4 hour delay of the qualifying races for the USGP at Glen Helen and would come back on race day Sunday to wreak havoc on the later laps of the MX2 class.

The Vet Invitational class, for riders aged 40-50+ was won by former Yamaha factory rider Doug “Dr D” Dubach. His biggest rivals were number one plate holder Mats Nilsson. The FIM Motocross World Championship collective goes straight from USA to France where the seventh round of the series will take place this weekend. While home riders Xavier Boog and Sebastien Pourcel struggle in a Tony Cairoli dominated MX1 class, France has a strong presence in the MX2 courtesy of leader Marvin Musquin and third placed since the USGP Steven Frossard. 

Winning at Glen Helen, Cairoli built on his Championship lead while Max Nagl remained in second place. Clement Desalle instead is now third from David Philippaerts and Ken De Dycker. With nearly a week gone by to ingest everything we took in at the USGP at Glen Helen, it’s time to share some random thoughts and imagery from a race that almost didn’t happen.

There were loads of good battles in each class – whether it was Townley and Alessi, or Cairoli and Alessi, or Desalle and everyone else – but in the MX2 class, the best battles were between the Brit Shaun Simpson (#11 above) and Britain-based American rider Zach Osborne (following behind here).
