New cyclocross bikes are often unveiled at Sea Otter, and this year, just as we saw at the 2011 Sea Otter Classic edition, the buzz and new cyclocross products on display are mostly centered around disc brakes, both mechanical and hydraulic.

With rare exceptions for the Smart Car, the tandem bike and whatever those contraptions are in the Dr. Seuss books, the human evolutionary process basically stopped when mankind progressed from two legs to two wheels. If you need proof of the superiority of the cycle, look no further than film, where bikes appear in some of the coolest and most nostalgic moments in modern cinema, thanks to great riders like Pee Wee Herman, the Fab Four and a little-known alien who really, really just wanted to make a house call already.

Belgian rider Tom Boonen won the Paris-Roubaix race for a record-tying fourth time, successfully breaking away from the pack about 56 kilometers (35 miles) from the end of Sunday’s one-day classic.

The 2005 world champion crossed the finish line alone, before five chasing riders had even reached the velodrome in the northern French town of Roubaix.
