There were plenty of new road and mountain bike components on show at the Sea Otter Classic, and BikeRadar’s technical editor James Huang checked out the latest kit from Ritchey, Cane Creek, Syncros, Easton, Race Face, Rotor, Edge Composites and The Hive.

Ritchey go one step further with Superlogic

Ritchey have trumped even their own WCS kit with the new Superlogic range, which will include wheels, handlebars and seatposts for both road and mountain applications…  Details

img_0802-internet1Stoked News made the trip to Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California for the Sea Otter Classic this past weekend.  I went to cheer on friends racing in the mt. bike gravity events, relax and socialize.

The weather at Sea Otter over the years has ranged from very nice California springtime weather, to cold, windy driving rain and everything in between.  The last few days in Monterey have been absolutely spectacular.  You could not have asked for anything better.  It was shorts, t-shirts and flip flops.

Sea Otter is the largest cycling event in North America and perhaps the world.  There were in excess of 10,000 entrants in the various races.  This is a fun event because there are no year-end championship points awarded and everyone can relax and have a good time.  The racing is serious, but no worry about points if you crash out.

Riders come from around the world, with a large number of Pro’s flying in from the South African World Cup last weekend.  The competition was very tuff in the Men’s Pro ranks.  There were over 100 pro men trying to qualify for the 32 open spots in the Dual Slalom.

Rather than give you the actual results I suggest you visit the Sea Otter web site.

I want to give a special thanks to the crew from Mike’s Bikes.  The hospitality of Brian, Eric and Drew of the San Rafael store helped made the weekend something special.  That and the keg Brian brought from Moylan’s Brewery in Novato.  I highly recommend you visit a Mike’s Bikes store in Northern Calif. for your cycling needs….. Thanks guys.

Tracy Moseley (Trek World Cup) took a narrow victory overy Melissa Buhl (KHS) in the elite women’s downhill on Sunday morning. Moseley started first and enjoyed an open track en route to setting a time that would hold up as the fastest throughout the finals.

While waiting for the rest of the racers to finish and before she had any idea she had won, Moseley said of her run, “I’m pretty disappointed. I unclipped in the first turn and it took me a bit to clip back in and find my rhythm. I overcooked another turn, too. I wasn’t riding as precisely as I would have liked.”

Nonetheless, her run was still good enough for a win, which she collected thanks to a 0.6-second advantage over Buhl.

Buhl, who was the last rider to start and the other top favorite besides Moseley, encountered some traffic on the way down. She ran into interference in the final stretch as she attempted to pass the rider who had started in front of her, Abigail Hippely. “I’ve passed riders before, but I’ve never lost by this close of a margin after doing so. On this course, it’s so close.”

“My run was pretty good other than not being able to get around a rider at the end…  Details & complete results

Late entry Leipheimer wins 69-mile men’s pro road race

Although the Sea Otter Classic attracts its share of mountain bike world titlists and Olympic medalists, it’s rare when top Tour de France riders compete. But in recent years, Levi Leipheimer has made a habit of unexpectedly registering at the last minute to pedal on the peninsula in mid-April.

Friday was no different as Leipheimer, 35, the third-place finisher in the 2007 Tour de France and three-time Tour of California winner, added to his strong early season by winning the 69-mile men’s pro road race at Laguna Seca Recreation Area…  DetailsÂ
