For David Sloan, online social networking doesn’t mean Facebook. It means raising more than $20,000 for the American Diabetes Association using his personalized Tour de Cure Web site.

“I asked literally everybody that’s in my Outlook contact database for donations,” said Sloan, who’ll ride in today’s Tour de Cure, a bike ride from San Antonio to Austin to benefit the ADA. “And I got some real surprises as a result, because there are always people looking for some place to donate to charity, but they just don’t know where to give.”

Tour organizers have already said they would …  Details

“The Tour of California should be in late April,” Armstrong told his fans.

Others have agreed. Next year’s race is being moved to May with the hope that spring conditions will lead to better racing and attract even larger crowds.

But there is a calculated risk in the calendar change, which pushes the Tour of California into the heart of traditional racing season. The race now conflicts with Europe’s more prestigious Giro d’Italia — testing the belief of Tour of California organizers that their event already has become well-established after just four years.

The race schedule of …  Details
