Quadruple Olympic gold medallist Chris Hoy suffered what he called a “stupid†defeat at the European track championships on Saturday after blowing a huge lead against a teenager with the slowest qualifying time.
Britain’s Hoy was comfortably ahead in the first round of the individual sprint only for 18-year-old Irishman Felix English to take him and everyone watching by surprise with a late surge to the line.

A Critical Mass bicycle ride organized in Long Beach the night of Friday, Oct. 29, came to a screeching halt when police officers issued approximately 70 citations and impounded 21 of the cyclists’ bikes.
In a statement released Monday by the city’s Public Information Office, police issued the citations because many of the cyclists disobeyed the rules of the road, including running stop signs.
“The group was stopped in the area of Anaheim Road and Palo Verde Avenue and was cited for violating rules of the road as well as safety issues,” the statement said.
