After reviewing more than 100 submissions from cities throughout California hoping to be named official start or finish locations, AEG, presenter of the Amgen Tour of California, has announced the 13 official Host Cities for the 2012 race. Considered America’s largest and most prestigious professional road cycling stage race, the seventh consecutive edition of the Amgen Tour of California will travel more than 750 miles from May 13 – 20, 2012.

USA Cycling will be sending the women’s pursuit team that took silver at last year’s world championship to the 2012 worlds next month in Melbourne, Australia.

The 13 Americans representing the United States racked up 11 medals at the recent Pan American Continental Track Championships in Mar del Plata, Argentina. The USA Cycling squad gained new continental champions in the men’s team sprint and scratch races. Overall the USA Cycling team also tallied seven bronze and two silver medals.

Racing kicked off in the Midwest Conference this weekend with the usual inaugural races hosted by Lindsey Wilson College in Kentucky. Everyone showed their early-season fitness and tested their legs at the short team time trial and challenging road race on Saturday and at the crit on Sunday. Thirty teams contested the time trial on a gently rolling course then a near-conference-record 246 riders took to the start line for a brutally-rolling road race course, of which the men’s A field rode for 75 miles. Alex Meyer (Wisconsin-Madison) found victory in that race while freshman Coryn Rivera (Marian) won the women’s A race.
