Stop me if this sounds familiar: A U.S. skier blows away the competition and wins a World Cup overall title with the Winter Olympics looming in the distance. Predicting gold in all five races is far from a stretch. Suddenly, a story about celebrating and champagne bubbles to the top of the story.

To say the Sierra Nevada College snowboarders did well at the United States Collegiate Skiing and Snowboarding Association’s National Championships last week would be accurate.
There was the overall team title for the SNC men. And the second place overall for the three-member women’s team. And two individual overall titles for sophomore Spencer Reeves and freshman Devon Crowther.

Snowboarding phenomenon Shaun White dominated Park City Mountain Resort’s unique new Intelligent Design freeride contest on Saturday, inching closer to a potential second TTR World Snowboard Tour title by entering the tour’s Top 5. Close behind White was Canadian shredder Charles Reid, who finished second in Utah and moved up into World No. 7 with U.S. rider Luke Mitrani rounding out the podium in third.
