WASHINGTON — He stands tall on his snowboard, maneuvering a championship  course with speed and agility.

That snowboard has been his ticket to competitions around the world — from  Colorado to New Zealand. It has also been a driving force in his recovery from the  wounds of war.

Last March, Oakley and SNOWBOARDER Magazine brought eight of the key, core retailers from the US to Mammoth Mountain, California for the Oakley Shred Shop Challenge, a loose-format contest that tested up to four staff members from each shop in the arena that led to them spending time on the retail floor in the first place. On hill, riders from Colorado’s Satellite, Utah’s Milosport, California’s Active Ride Shop and Wave Rave, Washington’s evo and SnoCon, Vermont’s Darkside and Massachusetts’ Eastern Boarder were tasked to drop into creations set up by the Mammoth Unbound Park Staff. Transitions were tackled, rails were ridden, and copious amounts of sake was consumed in celebration off hill. At the end of two days of events, the locals from Wave Rave took first place overall. Did we mention each team rode in costume, too? Thanks to all of the shops that came in competed, hung out, and celebrated the integral part that they play in snowboarding.
