Ever wonder what it’s like to oversee an entire portfolio of bicycles, from design and testing to picking and choosing colors, spec and pricing?  What about doing it for one of the largest bicycle companies in the world?

We interviewed three of Trek’s product managers to see what it’s all about, how they ended up with such a sweet job and what project they’re most proud of.  Tyler Pilger (road), Heather Henderson (women’s bikes) and Chad Price (hybrid, commuter, urban) tell us what it’s like…

BIKERUMOR: Each of you is a project manager for a different division within Trek Bicycles, can you explain what that role entails?

Tyler Pilger: I am the product manager for Trek Road, Triathlon and Cyclocross. I work with a team of Industrial Designers and Engineers to determine future projects and current specifications. We do a lot of research both inside and outside the bike industry to come up with new ideas.

VAIL, Colorado — Vail resident Kristin Williams wasn’t expecting huge crowds and an array of sporting events when she took her family to the Teva Mountain Games this year.

“The last time I went about five years ago, it was just a little kayaking event, and you hung out around the International Bridge,” she said. “I had no idea how big it was, and how many events there were.”

In fact, thousands athletes and spectators converged upon Vail Village during the four-day event to watch kayaking, climbing, biking, running and even dog-jumping competitions. Demo booths lined the village streets, and crowds enjoyed giveaways, free concerts and films, and family activities during the outdoor sports festival…  Details

Extended Play Starts June 13, Boneyard Nears Completion, Trail Crews Prep Garbanzo Zone

Since the opening of the Whistler Mountain Bike Park this spring, Whistler Blackcomb trail crews have been opening trails ahead of schedule and providing outstanding riding for the early season mountain bikers. Now is the time to get out and ride.

The entire lower section of the mountain is open and the Boneyard is not far off with a few lines open already. “The trail crew is really pumping it out,” says Rob McSkimming, VP of Business Development at Whistler Blackcomb. “It’s incredible to see how quickly everything is coming together. The Giant Slalom is near completion with the rest of the features rising from the dirt before our eyes.”
