Heath and Harvey take inaugural Pro GRT crowns after Mulally and Bourque win at Whiteface
Sixteen year-old Neko Mulally (Reading, Pa./STA) and 44-year-old Dawn Bourque (Campton, N.H./Rhino Bike Works) won the final race on the 2009 USA Cycling Pro Gravity Tour, the Whiteface 5K Downhill. Mulally outrode dozens of the region’s best downhillers to post the day’s best time at 7:48.15, while Bourque put up the best women’s time at 9:41.29. With his win, the young Mulally moved into sixth place in the final Pro GRT standings as Bourque propelled herself into fourth overall. Paul Delagnes raced against time as a high school student in Menlo-Atherton. Today,
as a junior at the University of
Colorado in Boulder, it’s judges who Delagnes must impress as a burgeoning dirt jumper.
“It takes lots and lots of practice and ignoring your instinct of not to do something stupid,” Delagnes said.
The 20-year-old became a competitive mountain biker as a freshman at M-A, traveling to courses as far east as Deer Valley, Utah, once or twice a month.
