USA Cycling announced today the dates and locations for the majority of its 2010 National Championship events. Next year, sixteen events will provide professional and amateur cyclists of all ages with opportunities to race for Stars-and-Stripes jerseys in five disciplines of competitive cycling. Of the fourteen events whose locations have been determined, nine are returning to their 2009 locations and five are headed to new host cities.
The nation’s BMX riders will be the first to compete for national titles in 2010. Slated for March 20, the USA Cycling BMX National Championships will return to the Metroplex BMX in Desoto, Texas where riders in both Challenge and Elite categories will compete for national titles in 20†and 24†Cruiser Class and Championship Class events.

Cycling Downhill Mt. Bike Video – Downhill bike race in Brazil slum- Red Bull Desafio no Morro – Slovakia’s Filip Polc took top honors in the Red Bull Desafio no Morro, an unprecedented mountain bike downhill competition inside a ‘ favela’ (slum) in Rio de Janeiro.Polc’s best time of 1:39.91 down the 760 meters of the favela’s alleys and staircases was enough to edge Brazilian Markolf Berchtold by over 1.5s. Britain’s Dan Atherton completed the podium with a top mark of 1:42.29.Dan’s brother Gee Atherton entered the competition in Brazil as the clear favorite, and confirmed those expectations by topping the qualifying session on Saturday. Race day didn’t equal lucky day for Gee, however, who ended up last among the 10 riders competing after suffering a flat rear tire halfway through the course.http://redbull.com
