Travis Pastrana is the most popular figure in freestyle motocross. No other has done so much for this young and dangerous sport. He first got on a motorbike at the tender age of three. Over 20 years riding he’s brought himself and his bike to the brink of the feasible. However, this was not enough. Victories in rally sport and mad dangerous action stunts followed.
Windham, N.Y. — The world’s best professional mountain bikers will converge on Windham Mountain this August as the resort town plays host to the prestigious UCI Mountain Bike World Cup finale, presented by Shimano, marking the event’s return to the United States after a five-year absence.Â
Local organizers who were successful in luring the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI)-sanctioned event have also planned a large number of diverse community events to coincide with the competition to create a four-day festival in Windham, Aug. 26-29.  Â
“The Windham World Cup and Festival will be – arguably – the most important international sporting event to come to Upstate New York since the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid,†said Race Director Nick Bove, owner of a local bike shop and a member of the Windham World Cup Group, the all-volunteer committee planning the races. “This is an incredible opportunity to showcase the best mountain bikers on the planet, while also promoting Windham and Greene County, and we plan to make the most of it.â€Â  … Details
It all began with the XC athletes and a “Le Mans” style start run to their bikes. The XC riders climb around a few of the major hotels, cut through forest single-track and then loop back into the town. The XC portion ends with a climb up rue des Remparts, the main artery of Tremblant village. Once the riders complete their lap, their team number was radioed back to the start of the down hill course and their team mate would then drop in.
