Mountain biking teams from eight California universities will be coming to town Sunday for a competition that will launch a new bike park in the hills south of the city.
The Bailey Bike Park on Bailey Road will be the only park dedicated to mountain biking in the East Bay, after courses in Livermore and Brentwood closed in the past year, said Rann Valdez, the park operator and president of Concord-based Stone Racing, a mountain biking and road racing club.

Kokanee Crankworx finished its seventh year as the biggest yet. Crankworx continues to progress the mountain bike scene on all fronts, and firmly stakes its claim as “the” event of the year for athletes, industry and fans alike. Though excitement has wrapped for this year, there is plenty to look forward to with next year’s event, now less than 10 months away, July 16 to 24, 2011.
Event dates were selected based on the 2011 UCI World Cup Downhill schedule to ensure continued attendance from world class downhill racers.
