Truckee, Calif. (October 17, 2010) – The 2010 USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships concluded on Sunday with Fort Lewis College and Brevard College successfully defending their 2009 overall team omniums.  

Fort Lewiswon the Division I prize with 663 points compared to the 579 and 535 accumulated by second- and third-ranked University of Colorado and Lees-McRae College. In Division II, Brevard took the win with 630 points over Union College with 608 and Warren Wilson College with 498.

The weekend closed out with the downhill contests, and due to the looming threat of rain, the morning seeding run was treated as the final. It was a dreary morning with just enough drizzle to keep the dust down as riders in both divisions descended the 1.33 mile course with 973 feet of vertical drop.

Clocking a 4:01.9 down the mountain, Joey Schusler (University of Colorado) claimed the Stars-and-Stripes jersey among Division I men. He beat out silver medalist Nathaniel Lewis (California Polytechnic) by three seconds. Erik Nelson (Northern Arizona University) got the bronze while Michael Larsen (University of Colorado) and Taylor Borucki (Fort Lewis College) rounded out the podium in fourth and fifth.

Jolandie Rust was five when she fell in love with cycling on a pink BMX with training wheels.

Now 26, she is determined to spend nearly three years in the saddle on an epic ride around Africa – all alone.

The waitress, who lives in Johannesburg, will set off early next year on a 40,000km journey through 34countries, including Somalia. There will be no back-up vehicles, management team or administrative office – just a bicycle.

Truckee, Calif. (October 15, 2010) – The 2010 USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships continued on Saturday with the short track cross country and four-cross competitions.

After the second day of racing, Fort Lewis College leads the Division I team omnium with 496 points while Lees-McRae is secondwith 424 and the University of Colorado isn’t far behind in third with 421 points. In Division II, Brevard College sits in first with 491 points while Union College is in second with 471 and Warren Wilson College is ranked third with 377.
