The area’s newest attraction — Wake Nation Cincinnati, the innovative cable watersports’ park — opens 10 a.m. Sunday in Fairfield’s Joyce Park.

At Wake Nation riders can water ski, wakeboard and wakeskate by being pulled across a smooth, 10-acre lake NOT by a motor boat, but by an overhead cable-pulley system.

Wake Nation Cincinnati is the only cable watersports park in the Midwest, the next closest one being more than 600 miles away, in Kansas City. There are only six other cable waterparks in the entire U.S., most of them in Florida and Texas…  Details

A strong field comprising 93 of the nation’s top ski racers will line up on Sunday in support of the 74th staging of the Upper Hawkesbury Power Boat Club’s Bridge to Bridge classic.

A range of classes, including Superclass, MOC, SMOC, Unlimited, 8.0-litre, Open Women and relevant age groups will contest the one-up racing.

Save The Waves Coalition presents its third annual Life Is A Wave benefit event, a yearly celebration of coastal environmentalism through music, art, film, and community activism. Life Is A Wave 2009 will roll in on May 14 from 6pm ’til midnight, once again at 111 Minna Gallery in downtown San Francisco. The multimedia event will feature live music from several innovative new bands, including Bay Area heavyweights Bayonics, as well as the fast-rising Kapakahi – both known for their dynamic mix of world beats and highly energetic live shows. Opening will be Clif Bar Inc.’s own Dung Beetles, along with DJs M3, OmarEtch, and DJ Paul.

This year Save The Waves will honor Reef founder, International Surfing Association President and philanthropist Fernando Aguerre as recipient of the 2009 Wave Saver Award, for his work and support defending coastlines around the world.

The National Water Ski Racing Association announced today the selections to the 2009 U.S. Elite Water Ski Racing Team, the U.S. Formula 2 Water Ski Racing Team and the U.S. Junior Water Ski Racing Team.  Athletes selected to the teams will compete in the 2009 Water Ski Racing World Championships, July 18-25, in Antwerp, Belgium.

The teams were selected based upon performances from the 2008 season, up through the first three races of 2009. A five-person committee appointed by the NWSRA board of directors made the selections.
