Most of us associate water skiing with summertime fun – warm sunshine, beaches and picnics – so it may come as a surprise that water skiing was born in Minnesota in 1922 when Ralph Samuelson used two boards and a clothesline to ski across Lake Pepin. With Noel Griffin’s ‘Blazen’ thundering ahead, skiers Chris Stout and Grant Turner have stormed home to claim the 2009 Barrie Beehag Water Ski Race staged by the Moama Water Sports Club.
Griffin and observer Bernard Simpson had their boat running superbly as they took their skiers to a new race record of 23:16.

Queensland has won the right to host the 2011 World Ski Racing championships with racing scheduled for the Brisbane waterside suburbs of Clontarf and Redcliffe.
The championships have been set down for May 18-28, 2011.
