Tourism officials and adventure aficionados have discovered an idyllic windsurfing destination in the northeastern part of Luzon, which is fast emerging as a water sports destination.

A joint team from the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the private sector recently explored Anguib beach, its white beach and crystal clear waters in Sta. Ana town, Cagayan province, and found the area perfect for windsurfing, which is fast gaining popularity in the country, thanks to foreign and local enthusiasts.

“Hands down Anguib beach is a lot better than Bulabog Beach on Boracay island,” said Manny Cabili, president of the Philippine Windsurfing/Kitesurfing Association (PWA)….  More info

Retailers across the country are yanking shoes, toys, Valentine’s gifts and other children’s goods from shelves to comply with a strict lead law that took effect Tuesday.

The L.A. Boat Show opened on a high note considering the challenging economic times. On the whole, exhibitors reported more interest that far exceeded expectations.

“We’re happy and making sales at the show,” commented Scott Driesbach, Advantage Boats COO with factory headquarters in Lake Havasu City, AZ. “It’s been a long six months, but after this Saturday and Sunday, we’re feeling much better about what 2009 holds in store. We closed several deals the first day and the introduction of our new 34 XFlight model created a lot of consumer buzz and plenty of quality leads that we’ll be following up in the weeks and months ahead.”

Like a predator stalking his prey, Patrick Davids’s eyes rarely stray from the choppy green sea, and his radio is always at the ready.

While the assortment of sunbathers, swimmers, and surfers may not know his name, they know what he does and that one day they may owe him their lives.

Mr. Davids, or “Rasta” as he is better known, is a shark spotter who helped set up one of the world’s only shark-monitoring units along beaches in Cape Town, South Africa.

From a cramped beach hut, Davids has helped build up a network of full-time shark spotters on nine beaches, watching over one of the world’s most shark-infested shorelines.
